100 years of Soroptimist International

Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement, with its main mission being to create 'a better world for women'. A new Post Luxembourg stamp marks the organisation's centenary.

With a network of around 72,000 club members in 121 countries, Soroptimist International advocates for human rights and gender equality. At the heart of this advocacy is its work across eight UN Centres, where our UN representatives ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard.

Its main mission, "a better world for women", is reflected in various projects. A few examples of its activity include:

  • stemming violence against women and promoting education for young girls and women
  • The creation of infrastructures such as schools, boarding schools or accommodation for victims of violence
  • a mentoring program and support for education and continuing education Soroptimist International now has
