Guernsey’s Definitive Stamps

Prior to the release of the new King Charles III Definitive, Guernsey Post released a set of 17 definitive stamps showcasing the birds on the island of Guernsey. Unlike the latest King Charles III definitive which has a value of £10, the Guernsey Birds definitive stamps range in value from 1p to £4. A set of 16 definitive stamps was also released showcasing Alderney Birds in 2020.

Guernsey Post have previously released definitive stamps showing the monarch for the island of Alderney in 2015, when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II became the longest reigning monarch in British history. A £10 definitive was previously released for the island of Guernsey in 2006 to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 80th birthday.

What is a Definitive Stamp?

Definitive stamps are sometimes known as regular issue stamps and are available for sale by the post office for an extended period of time. These stamps are designed to serve the everyday postal needs of the country and come in different postal values to cover the current postal rates of the country of issue.

Most postal administrations bring out new definitive stamps every 5 years or so, although some only issue new definitive stamps when a new monarch or leader necessitates a new issue of definitive stamps.
