About the GY - Bailiwick by Day stamps

The GY stamps show the Bailiwick of Guernsey by day and include images of Bordeaux Harbour, which is overlooked by Vale Castle and offers spectacular views of the islands of Herm and Jethou. Another of the stamps shows Niaux Water Mill in Talbot Valley, which was built in the mid 1300s. Following extensive restoration work, the water mill began turning again in 2017 and in doing so preserved Guernsey’s heritage for future generations. Also included is Picquet House in St Peter Port, which was built in 1819. Picquet House has long provided a harbour-side military presence and also housed a strong room to lock up disorderly individuals.

Other idyllic spots in the Bailiwick included in the 'By Day' stamps include Les Padins, which is found in the secluded valley in St Saviour which is about 5 miles from St Peter Port. Fermain Bay, which is home to one of Guernsey's most picturesque beaches is also depicted. Fermain Bay is hidden on the rugged east coast and walkers can follow the cliff path from St Peter Port to find it.

About the UK - Bailiwick by Night Stamps

The UK stamps show the Bailiwick by night and include an image of Rousse Tower, one of 15 loophole towers built between 1778 and 1779 to defend Guernsey against the threat of a French invasion. Rousse Tower was re-fortified in the 19th century and since then has been well maintained. Another of the stamps shows Guernsey's first sea-water bathing pool, constructed at la Vallette, near St Peter Port in 1844. In 2019 a not-for-profit charitable trust was set up in order to rejuvenate the pools. The Victoria Marina at St Peter Port is also showcased on one of the new stamps. The Victoria Marina looks out towards the neighbouring islands of Herm and Jethou and provides a popular walk-ashore facility and easy access to the town seafront. Also included in the UK stamps are photographs of Castle Cornet, which has guarded the harbour for 800 years and Castel Church which is situated on a site of Pagan worship.

What is a non-value indicator stamp?

A non-value indicator (NVI) is a stamp featuring a non-monetary face value, such as a 1st or 2nd class stamp. The first NVI was issued in 1989 and featured the Machin design. Generally NVIs are split into 2 categories, Standard Perf NVIs and Elliptical Perf NVIs. Standard Perf NVIs have perforated edges along all 4 edges, whilst Elliptical Perf NVIs feature an ellipsis shaped perforation, usually at the bottom of both long sides.
