Stamps created from previously released Guernsey and Alderney stamps and mini sheets depicting elements of sustainable forest management, including trees, birds, and bugs, are to be released by Guernsey Post.
Guernsey’s ‘Heart of the Forest’ quartet stamp series has been created by Gail Armstrong, an award-winning paper sculptor and illustrator who produces three-dimensional works of art from flat sheets of paper.
The stamp theme takes its inspiration from Love Paper, a global campaign which promotes the sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper, and paper packaging.
Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post, said:
‘To highlight the work of the Love Paper campaign, Gail has used Guernsey and Alderney issue stamps and miniature sheets, which she has moulded and shaped to depict some of the elements of sustainable forest management. The result is a series of stunning three-dimensional paper cut images, including a chestnut tree with a vibrant blue bird, which is depicted on the first stamp in our series. We couldn’t be happier with the stamps which, when presented in the souvenir sheet product, being the heart of the forest together.’
The four stamps will be issued throughout the year as follows:
- Chestnut tree and blue bird, issue date 9 February 2022
- Forest and butterfly, issue date 4 April 2022
- Leaves and beetles, issue date 24 August 2022
- Flowers and butterfly, and souvenir sheet featuring the set, issue date 2 November 2022.
