Guernsey Post’s Christmas stamps for both Guernsey and Alderney, the first to display the cipher of King Charles III, depict illustrations of British pantomime characters
Artist Nick Watton has designed two sets with illustrations of characters from much-loved festive pantos Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood, each with values of 47p, 52p, 79p, £1.10 and £1.35. The Guernsey-issue stamps show Sleeping Beauty’s Princess Aurora, cursed by the wicked fairy to sleep for 100 years, and awakened by a kiss from the handsome prince.
The Alderney stamps feature much-loved outlaw Robin Hood, who stole from the rich to give to the poor with the help of Maid Marion and his band of Merry Men.
‘We are absolutely delighted to release our first set of stamps carrying the cypher of His Majesty King Charles III,’ said Bridget Yabsley, head of philatelic at Guernsey Post. ‘It’s also exciting to depict the much loved tales of Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood on our stamps, which will be performed in Guernsey and Alderney over the pantomime season, which will no doubt bring some festive cheer.’
It is anticipated that the 47p Christmas card rate (Guernsey and Alderney’s reduced local rate stamp) will be available up to 22 December.
